Our approach to leadership is that it can exist, and needs to exist, at every level in the organisation. Classic qualities, such as drive, energy and enthusiasm, and a willingness to take personal responsibility for matters (something which we call 'botheredness') are qualities which both inspire and are infectious. Moreover, they are qualities which are as important at the grass roots of an organisation as they are for the Chief Executive.
We believe that effective leadership is authentic leadership – that it involves being true to oneself – and that to be otherwise lacks integrity. However, the qualities that we associate with leadership are not always apparent in all people in equal measure. Our role in Leadership and Management Development is to 'nurture personal growth' so that people have the capacity to make choices – behavioural choices about how to respond in any given situation. Once we are aware of these choices and the impact or consequences of these choices, then we can ask and be guided by the question 'what would a leader do'?
For many, these choices about behaviour represent a shift in focus from 'task' to 'people'. Rising within the organisation demands a further shift of emphasis – from 'tactical' to 'strategic'. Thus, our development programmes provide opportunities for people to explore their instinctive style across these dimensions and, through an examination of consequences – including impact on results and impact on people, to assess whether the balance is right or appropriate to their sphere of influence and accountability.
Leadership & Management Development programmes designed by TiA are experiential and frequently modular. In most cases they will also involve work-based projects which act as a golden thread, allowing participants to translate the learning back into the workplace.
“The best leadership programme that I have ever attended.” Procurement Director, Willmott Dixon Housing.
